Igalapedia – 2016 New Year Message

As we start another year I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year for 2016 on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Igalapedia Project and myself.
I hope to see as many of us as possible attending to one of the mandatory assignment of nature, that is passing the mother tongue (Igala language in particular) from our generation to the next through constant use of the language in our home, always speaking to our children in the Igala dialect and above all, continued research for keeping the language alive on the path of growth.
We all know that language is as old as all generation of mankind, every generation met it, celebrate it their own way, passed it to the next. The chain continued until a plaque called language imperialism grew up and commenced eating deep into the fabric of world minority languages. Igala is not left out of this illness. Who is the doctor to cure this plaque? Me and You. Here comes the mandatory assignment given to us by the Mother Nature I mentioned above. The past generation called forefathers did not attended universities before there were able to pass the language to us and so is duty bound on us to make sure we pass same to the next generation by teaching our children how to speak Igala language.
A New Year message is always a chance to look back at some of our recent achievements and to look forward to the next year. If you bring goods to an open market, the first impression of buyer-to-be towards the item starts from how much price tag you placed on it. We shouldn’t expect individuals from another tribe to elevate Igala language in the gathering of Nigerian languages. It is how much value we placed on the language through research, writing and awareness creation that would tell the world how much worthy is you own.
We use this medium to call on all Igala children both at home and in the diaspora to prepare them self for taking Igala language to the next level in the community of Nigerian languages at the 2016 edition of the National Conference of NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR NIGERIAN LANGUAGES (NINLAN).
