Gather In this writing I will discuss The Grip, which is Step 1 of my seven step checklist for the golf swing. After years of reading, practicing and experimenting with different methods and techniques to prepare for the golf swing I have broken it down simply to seven steps that work for me. The seven steps in my swing checklist are 1- The Grip, 2 – The Set Up, 3 – The Waggle, 4 – The Backswing, 5 – Tempo, 6 – The Downswing, & 7 – The Follow Thru. I placed Tempo in the middle because it is an integral part of the entire swing from start to finish and will be elaborated on in a future writing. Firstly, before swinging a golf club, it is important to shift one inch to the right of the ball and transfer the weight to the right leg, while moving towards the right heel simultaneously. Then, after that, rotate the shoulders around the spine, while making sure to keep the left arm connected, and the right arm extended. The backswing’s the first step to swinging a golf club. The proper backswing involves smoothly bringing the club away from your body. This is accomplished by rotating your body while moving the arms upwards by keeping your front arm straight and your back arm bent at the elbow at a 90 degree angle. Your front hand needs to rotate until the back of your hand’s facing you while you swing. The key’s to keep your head level with your arms while you rotate the arms and the club. Make sure your feet are firmly on the ground. While you swing, shift your weight in the direction of the swing. Work on improving your fitness in those muscles that are used in all parts of the swing and then you should find that your overall swing improves. One of the most common mistakes golfers make is trying to swing to hard. Most golfers think that power is the name of the game, especially when coming off the tee box.
